This terrain bites back
The south side is where Whitecap stops being polite. Steep, tree-lined, and honest. A wall of black and double-black runs that experts drive past bigger names to ski. La Siala, St. George, Ore Chute, The Dragon, and Mary’s Mistake fall away fast and hold their pitch the whole way down. Val d’Isère, The Southern Cross, and Star Dust round it out.
And when you’re ready, Djevel may be the steepest run in Wisconsin. You’ll know when you’re standing at the top.

Green and blue terrain runs all across the hill, wide and rolling, with plenty of room to link turns and build confidence. First-timers start on the magic carpet and work up at their own pace. There’s always another run to grow into.
On any given morning, a kid links their first turns while grandpa cruises the run beside them. Three generations on the same mountain. That’s not a tagline, it’s a Tuesday.
The Wine Hut
Where you’ll find the soul of skiing
Halfway through the day, peel off toward Weber Lake and ski down to the Wine Hut. Square-hewn logs gone dark with age, the oldest standing structure in Iron County, and a wood stove that’s been throwing heat since long before you clicked into your first pair of skis. Inside: hot mulled wine, cold beer, chili, cocoa you can spike, and Evie Lundberg’s hand-drawn trail map still hanging on the wall.
Stamp the snow off your boots, find a seat by the fire, and let the cold bleed out of your hands. It isn’t the base lodge and it isn’t on the way to anything. You have to ski to it, and that’s the whole point. Stand by that stove at ten below. Here you’ll find the soul of skiing.
